The original version of Runescape is still accessible

Created by Jagex Ltd., RuneScape is an MMORPG (Massively Multi-Player Online Role-Playing Game) where hundreds of thousands of people at a time play worldwide. Based in a fictional Medieval world, RuneScape, real people play as their own avatar (character). There is a popular online game of adventures and quests. However, with the dangers for young people on the Internet, parents may wonder if this is a safe game for children to be playing. To find out, the author of this article joined RuneScape, and became a RuneScape "hero." Players can join either god's camp, where they're tasked with collecting divine tears that give their chosen deity more power and, hopefully, the upper hand in the battle.

The 2006-2007 era of Runescape was definitely the highlight in my mind. Membership costs weren’t fluctuating constantly and new content was fun and exciting without changing the core of the game. It was when they banned player killing from the Wilderness, a zone made entirely for player killing, that I lost interest in the direction the game was going. I then canceled my membership and stopped playing. As well as the new engine, RuneScape 3 also marks the 6th Age of Geilinor, the fantasy world the game is set in. This sees the old gods return, all looking to re-exert their authority. It's up to the players to decide which gods win, though, so the community has a chance to take part in and shape world-changing events.

The first world event is the Battle of Lumbridge. This battle sees Saradomin, the god of order and wisdom, face off against Zamorak, the god of chaos, power and destruction. The new book, also composed by 2008/2010's Betrayal at Falador writer T.S. Church, weaves this gritty setting in to a tale that will appeal to each more youthful and more mature readers, and is also capable of drawing in even all those unfamiliar using the RuneScape game. Church has listened nicely to constructive criticisms of his debut book. I didn’t enjoy this month’s quest. RuneScape’s quest system has been rough ever since Jagex brought the world into the sixth age and made it so each quest set before then is a flashback or a memory or something.

Heart of Stone is supposed to be an introductory quest to the elder gods, a topic that if you’ve been keeping up with the quests will seem out of place since your character has marinated in the topic for years. Every once in a while Jagex will go back and bring in a quest to introduce players to a certain idea, throwing consistency into the wind when your character who has known about these topics for years suddenly has no idea what they are. RuneScape world is composed by regions, cities and island, inside of which you could be able to move searching for adventures that provide experience to improve the skills, gold or any other reward, according to your goals, even cooperating with other players or exploring on your own. You decide your destiny!

For many gamers, the mention of Runescape conjures an image low graphics, tedious skill leveling, and a young community (IE: immature players). However, for those of us who have remained loyal to Runescape over the years, the game represents much more: a community which influences new features through content polls and feedback. Seasonal events which are humorous and novel, reliable, quality updates to both the mechanics of the game and the world in which we play. Runescape is one of the few games on the market which has gone through a complete overhaul, essentially creating a sequel with which players could transfer current characters without starting over.

The transition of moving everyone from Runescape (now referred to as Runescape Classic) to this new version of the game allowed for many improvements; graphic upgrades, changes to interface, and the elimination of certain in-game requirements (such as sleeping). The original version of Runescape is still accessible, for any players seeking a nostalgic escape.

Training in the Wilderness is generally a bad idea due to the threat of player killers. Most monsters that are found in the Wilderness can be found elsewhere, or have better alternatives in non-Wilderness locations. Free players can now use all basic combat potions, (attack, strength, defense, ranging, and magic) which can make training significantly faster. If you can afford it, it’s worth the investment.
